The Kondor Art Theater is thrilled to bring you a captivating theatrical experience: selections from Bertolt Brecht’s masterpiece, “Mother Courage and Her Children”, performed by the acclaimed Avilion Cameo Theatre (ACT).
This influential anti-war drama, penned in 1939, continues to resonate as a powerful critique of war and its heartbreaking aftermath. A foundational work in modern theatre, “Mother Courage” challenges audiences to confront the price of endurance, the mirage of authority, and how war permeates every facet of existence.
It’s a tale of war, greed, and heartbreak.
The play unfolds against the backdrop of the brutal Thirty Years War. We follow Mother Courage, a clever and strong woman, as she hauls her wagon across a war-ravaged Europe, peddling her wares to soldiers. She’s fighting to stay alive, and she thinks she can make money from the war while keeping her kids safe. But the war ends up taking everything from her, one child at a time.
This production uses Brecht’s groundbreaking style of epic theatre. It’s meant to get you thinking, not to let you get carried away by the feelings. The actors switch between different roles without missing a beat, which really drives home the fact that this is all a carefully crafted performance.
